Very sweet, beautifully illustrated story about Rainie, an elementary-school-age girl who is spending her first summer with her dad at the lake following her parents’ divorce. She misses her mom and wishes things could go back to the way they used to be, and seeing the loons at the lake brings up all the emotions and memories of how things used to be, as well as some pretty tough questions for her dad. But over the court of the summer, she realizes things are different and won’t go back to how they were, but she is also hopeful and realizes things can still be good.
